Uncertain fate of presidency of Lebanon’s Supreme Islamic Shia Council

The Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar reported that an agreement to appoint Sheikh Abdul-Hussein Sadiq, the Friday prayer leader of the city of Nabatieh, as head of Lebanon’s Supreme Islamic Shia Council failed because he has exceeded the legal age limit.

AhlulBayt News Agency: The Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar reported that an agreement to appoint Sheikh Abdul-Hussein Sadiq, the Friday prayer leader of the city of Nabatieh, as head of Lebanon’s Supreme Islamic Shia Council failed because he has exceeded the legal age limit.

According to the report, the proposed appointment of the Nabatieh Friday prayer leader to the presidency of the Supreme Islamic Shia Council was derailed due to his age, preventing the agreement from being finalized.

As a result, negotiations between Hezbollah and the Amal Movement over restructuring the Council’s institutions have reportedly returned to square one.
